The idea both frightened & fascinated me – it was 1988 when I first heard about it – I was speaking to someone who had done it easily & effortlessly. It was something I had to do! But, I had sat by a campfire many times & felt the heat…I had burnt my hands taking a cake or casserole out of the oven – I was not sure – to walk on FIRE – could it be done? It was August 1988. In order to enjoy Regular Remedial Health Massage (RRHM) it is MOST essential to find a Qualified Experienced Natural Health Practitioner with whom you feel totally comfortable & supported.

QUALIFICATIONS = ESSENTIAL!!

Ask to see credentials – although not always an indicator of a sensitive supportive personality, it is essential that your Therapist has a firm grasp of Basic Anatomy (the location and dynamics of bones/muscles/blood vessels/tendons/nerves etc). In order to gain a recognised qualification a Practitioner must demonstrate a certain level of proficiency in various techniques. Qualifications will often afford them membership to associations such as AMA – a wonderful place to start your search. Yet, some highly Professional Qualified and Experienced Practitioners (myself included) may also operate independently. During a 23 year career since my first Swedish & Sports Massage Diploma (1989); although I was accepted into SNTR, it has not been necessary for me to continue membership.

EXPERIENCE = HIGHLY  DESIRABLE!!

A Practitioner may hold certain level of qualification – BUT it is ONLY by experience that skills develop and continue to grow. During the periods when I have operated a Natural Healing Centre or been involved with Naturopathic Clinic, it was often the case that a qualified person would apply for a job yet was found to be unsuitable due to lack of experience.

I remember my own situation – it was at least 3 months of consistent weekly ‘hands on’ practice in a clinic environment before ‘the flow’ came into my sequence. Over the 23+ years I still continue to improve, adjust and develop my flowing sequence of Deep Tissue Movements.

Extra training and qualifications also help to improve the overall value your Therapist can bring to the Healing Treatment – Reflexology is one additive I believe essential to include in every hour of Remedial Health Massage.

ENVIRONMENT = RELAXING~PRIVATE~ SUPPORTIVE

                Many Natural Healing Centres are often located away from the hustle bustle of shopping centres or busy highways for a VERY good reason. The ideal environment for Improving Health & Healing needs to feel like a Sanctuary – a place removed from stressful sounds and energies such as artificial lightning/air conditioning/traffic noise & pollution. Naturally, sometimes it is necessary and possible to create a peaceful place amongst these dynamics.

Yet, it is desirable and highly recommended that you seek out a Practitioner operating away from such environments. Many people find a Mobile Massage Therapist who is willing to come to their home – as long as you set the room up away from phone/bright light/noise/distractions this can work well. Ideally, you will benefit from visiting a Healing Space already established for that purpose. A welcoming  place where you can enjoy relaxing sounds of nature or healing music, where you feel warm and comfortable and safe; and where you are not rushed/hurried.

ACCESSIBLITY = KEEP IT LOCAL!!

                It is wise to avoid unnecessary travel when accessing your RRHM – a maximum of 25/30min depending on location. Check around your local area (Public Noticeboards/Yellow Pages/Internet/Gumtree) to find the Perfect Remedial Health Practitioner for you. The MOST successful way I have found my clients is by recommendation – ask your friends and family. Ask other people who they know in your area – ask your neighbour, your work colleagues or other participants in your Yoga Class/Gym/Sport.

Once you have located your Ideal Therapist – KEEP Booking Ahead! By making another booking at your current appointment (every 2weeks ideal at first, then every 3 or 4) you are applying action to your intent  of RRHM and well on your way to developing your new Health Habit – your Life will improve & your body will thank you!

HOLISTIC = METAPHYSICAL

Your body is a reflection of your mind ~ Thought Patterns and Unresolved Emotional Energy stuck in the body brings tension/pain/disease. A truly Holistic Natural Health Practitioner will understand and respect the Inner Intelligence that permeates every cell/atom/molecule of your being. Working with you in this way assists your understanding and interpretation of your bodies’ messages, allowing a deeper connection to the Healing Force available to you.

A client and I will often consult with the  suggested Thought Patterns and Affirmations found in the helpful book ‘You Can Heal Your Life’ by Louise Hay. At other times it maybe recommended that the client begin a regular practice such as Yoga to aid health/wellbeing; or consider Breathwork/Rebirthing for deeper unresolved issues. Regular Remedial Health Massage continues to be an integral part of EVERY Healing Outcome.

Regular Remedial Health Massage promotes Rejuvenation & Relaxation

Many times I hear people say “my job is killing me” or “my back is killing me” and similar statements that suggest their stress levels are extremely high. Many are experiencing pain as a result of over-work or a job related injury (such as RSI, strains & sprains, anxiety and depression).

My suggestion of – reducing the workload in some way, is often met with the following replies “cost of living too high”; “mortgage/credit card has to be paid”; “love my work, would be lost without it”; “can’t afford to stop”; “no one to replace me” …and the list goes on.

Unfortunately, we often work week after week forgetting  the need to balance our activity with healthy rest/relaxation. Although “a few beers in front of the telly” constitutes rest to many a hard worker; there are also some simple healthy alternatives that could compliment any current lifestyle.

YOGA is one practice that is gentle, yet powerful for boosting the whole body/mind/spirit. Yoga is ALL about balance ~ a weekly session aids relaxation, flexibility, self-awareness and brings peace.  We have some of the most incredible land formations, cleanest beaches and unique structures – both man-made & natural. We lead the world in so many ways; we export amazing inventions and brilliant talents (music, art etc) abroad; our freedom and opportunities are amongst the highest in the world.

Most of all I believe what is unique & special about Australia today – is US.

I write this for you (U know who U R) ...and for me ...and for everyone (we R all living with questions & doubts about ourselves our loves & lovers)

Before I go into this 4 Part Series (Pt1: Love = Dirty Word? Pt2: You R Wanted; Pt3: You R Safe & Accepted; Pt4: You R Special) I would like to ‘set the scene’ by reviewing the basic psychological premise behind my writings. I am writing this with humility as an offering of my Truth at this time based on over 20years of personal growth/study/Professional Practice. We are no good to ourselves or each other (let alone a new partner) till we address the hidden motivations that propel us from one lover to the next and the next (serial monogamy).

It is common knowledge that we all have an ego = ego mind is basically the sum total of all our memories/experiences/cultural conditioning etc. Our ego mind is a useful & necessary part of Self. It contains our conscious survival instinct with protective qualities; influences our emotional states and is VERY useful for navigating our way through Life + having FUN.

Ultimately, many of us fail to realise that we also have choice about how to manage this powerful ego Self. And that we also have other facets to ourselves = the deeper mind – often called Inner Intelligence/Higher Self/Spiritual Wisdom. This aspect of Self is often (mostly) unconscious, yet available through various practices such as CCBs/Rebirthing , meditation, or our Dreams (the dream world can be a mix of ego & higher self guidance). Over the years I have been asked many times to facilitate Astrology Classes, and although I often teach some of the basics in a Natal Chart Reading; it has never been the ‘right time’ to do a structured class. Now is the right time.

My love of this wonderful language of symbols began in the mid 1980s in this lifetime (I am sure I have lived other lifetimes where I have also been an Astrologer). This connection has continued to grow and blossom with structured studies, working with clients, research, reading books and articles. Working with Astrology on a daily basis is a bit like having a referdex (street directory) to a city – you have an idea of what type of environment (transits) you are travelling in; and the type of detours you are most prone to enjoy. Astrology is an ancient language of symbols that has been used by humans for centuries to assist with decision making, planning events, understanding themselves and the world around them; and predicting the future.

My use of Astrology as a Natural Health Professional includes drawing on an individuals’ Natal Chart to gauge their current circumstances, as well as past & inner working potentials. Fitness Feb – The perfect time to turn your focus into healthy mind/body/spirit. The festive season with all its’ excesses is over; Australia Day celebrations are done for this year, and the children are back in school.

Now we have the smallest month of the year laid out before us ready to be packed full of healthy choices, new behaviours and a rebalance of our energies!!

 Being only 28days long (most years) we can easily achieve our confidence back by following a disciplined plan for optimum health and fitness. Then, as we move beyond Fitness Feb – we are stronger and more confident to continue our healthy habits into the rest of the year.
